Ernst “Beutel” Beutelspacher was born on 21 July
1920 at Auerbach near Karlsruhe. In May 1941, Beutelspacher was posted
to LG 2. Fahnrich Beutelspacher was assigned to II.(S)/LG 2. In spring
1942, II./(S)/LG 2 was redesignated II./Sch.G 1. He flew his first combat
missions at the beginning of the Russian campaign. On 21 December 1942,
Beutelspacher was promoted to the rank of Leutnant. He was awarded the
Ehrenpokal the same day and the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 2 August 1943.
From summer 1943, Beutelspacher was a Staffelkapitän with II./Sch.G 1.
Beutelspacher recorded his first aerial victory on 5 August, when he shot
down a Russian LaGG-5 fighter. In October 1943, II./Sch.G 1 was redesignated
II./SG 2. Beutelspacher assumed command of 6./SG 2. By the end of 1943,
he had three aerial victories to his credit. On 22 July 1944, Beutelspacher
was shot down and killed in a Fw 190 fighter-bomber in aerial combat with
USAAF fighters one kilometer east of Focsari in Rumania.
Ernst Beutelspacher was credited with five aerial
victories in about 600 missions. All his victories were recorded over the
Eastern
front.
